Satellite TV uses wireless radio transmission systems for the delivery of its TV programs for viewing at home or business. A radio signal can only travel in straight however. Enter the satellite. By placing a satellite in orbit at 37,000 kilometers (22,300 miles) above the ground, and it coincides with the Earth’s rotational speed (7000 miles per hour), the satellite remains in the same spot above the earth. This applies both at geosynchronous orbit.
These orbits are sometimes also referred to as Clarke orbits in honor of Arthur C. Clarke, who first made the idea in an article he wrote in 1945 entitled “Extraterrestrial rileys” published in Wireless World Magazine. On-orbit satellite then retransmits the radio signal back to earth for the reception of satellite dish (small dish), located in your home or business.
